Davis, CA – Imagining America and International House Davis invite the community to a special evening of storytelling and connection at Story Circles for Community Connection on Tuesday, March 18, from 5 to 7 PM at International House Davis. This interactive event creates a space for sharing personal experiences, deep listening, and fostering empathy among community members.
Facilitated by staff from Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, the event will use the story circles methodology, developed by artist John O’Neal of the Free Southern Theater. Through a guided storytelling process, participants will reflect on moments of support or lack thereof in their lives, exploring how these experiences shape the ways we care for ourselves and others.
Participants will be invited to reflect on the following:
“Tell us about a time when you felt supported and held by others during a difficult time in your life. Or tell us about a time when you did not feel supported when you needed it, and how that experience changed how you support yourself or others.”
By sharing personal narratives, participants will help cultivate a deeper understanding of how communities can create meaningful, supportive networks. The event is open to all, and no preparation is required—just bring yourself, a friend, and a willingness to listen and share. Resources on Story Circles will be provided so attendees can bring this practice into their own communities.
