Picnic in the Park Returns

After three years away because of the Pandemic, Picnic in the Park is slated to return to the Davis Farmers Market this Spring.

Picnic in the Park will return with a new format May 17 and continue each Wednesday through September 13.

Each night will feature live music from a local band, children’s entertainment and food vendors.

“I’m so happy, because I really feel like we broke people’s hearts,” Randii MacNear, executive director of the Davis Farmers Market Alliance, said in a press release. “There was no solution except to try to bring it back—if we could find a way.”

Food trucks will be set up on the patio area and bands will play from the top of the stairs, facing the lawn.

As far as children’s entertainment goes, it’ll be more scaled back than pony rides or bounce houses. Plans call for clowns and face-painters.

Tables and chairs will no longer be provided, so families are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets for picnicking. During operating hours—4 to 8 p.m.—the market will have an open-container permit, meaning you can BYO on the grassy area.
