This award of $4000 supports the creation of new work by emerging artists in California and the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and an artist talk in January-February 2027 at the Pence. PENCE GALLERY. Manuel Fernando Rios is a painter, printmaker, and Professor of Art at Woodland Community College. In his exhibit, Rios shares his interest in themes that explore his Chicano heritage, as well as his family’s history and experiences. Blurring the line between naturalism and abstraction, the artist embraces the use of complex design patterns and photography to make a powerful statement. 11:30a—5p. Free

PENCE GALLERY. Barbara Prodaniuk is a ceramic artist whose work is inspired by the forest, meadows, and waterways surrounding the Truckee area. She explores the stories carried by the creatures and artifacts found in these environments through layered surfaces, organic textures, and sculpted imagery. 11:30a—5p. Free

Art in Bloom is the first collaboration with members of the Davis Flower Arrangers and the Pence Gallery, in which creative floral arrangements are paired with specific artworks on view at the Pence.
