Davis Nominated for 2024 “Strongest Town” in the Nation

By: Barbara Archer, City of Davis

Your Weekly Vote Determines the Winning Town

The City of Davis announced today that it will go head-to-head with 15 other U.S. cities starting Monday, March 4, in the ninth annual Strongest Town Contest hosted by Strong Towns.

Help vote for Davis each week starting March 4 to make Davis the “Strongest Town” in the nation at strongesttown.com.

Cities are nominated based on what they are doing to make their communities stronger and more resilient, such as decreasing the negative impacts of parking or driving, creating safer streets, improving public engagement, building financial transparency or showing what makes their cities so special.

Every week, community members must vote for the city of their choice in this bracket-style voting tournament. Cities will advance over five rounds, one round a week, based on the number of votes they get. In the first round, Davis will compete with three other cities in a special category based on their achievements. Davis was selected for the “Building Better Budgets” category by Strong Towns. Then, all cities will advance to Round 2 to compete head-to-head. The five rounds of weekly voting are as follows:

•Round 1: Meet Your Contestants/Special Category (March 4–8)
•Round 2: Sweet Sixteen (March 11–15)
•Round 3: Elite Eight (March 18–22)
•Round 4: Final Four (April 1–5)
•Round 5: Championship (April 8–12)

The winning city will be announced on Monday, April 15, and will be honored at the Strong Towns National Gathering. Strong Towns will also create a short documentary about the winning city.
