New Outdoor Gear Consignment Shop Opens in Davis

By: Ashley Arax for The Dirt

Outdoor adventures have a new, locally-owned shop to check out for their next purchase.

Easy Wind Gear, a consignment shop dedicated to secondhand outdoor equipment and apparel, is located on G Street, across from the Davis Food Co-op.

Owner Shad Ryan recently moved from Ithaca, N.Y., a place where he had first toyed with the idea of opening a used gear shop in an active community that didn’t have one. It was missing in Davis, and he decided it was time to bring his decades-long idea to life.

Easy Wind Gear carries a range of secondhand equipment for all seasons. Shoppers can expect to find ski and snowboard gear, climbing equipment, backpacking and car camping essentials, as well as water-sport items like kayaks and wetsuits. Fittingly in a town with a deep bike culture, cycling gear also has a big presence at the shop. Beyond gear, there is apparel for men, women, and children.

Ryan sees his business as a way to support the local community by making people’s dollars stretch further and putting earnings back into the hands of his consignors.

“You can come in here and spend $80 and leave with three Patagonia pieces of merchandise instead of half of one,” he told The Dirt.

Ryan says his goal is to create a place that feels familiar and easy to navigate, with a vibe that is more like stepping into someone’s home than into a retail space. His future plans include hosting events like trail training groups and outdoor skill seminars. Ultimately, he seeks to foster a culture that grows from people connecting over shared experiences in the outdoors.
