Halloween Costume Guide 2023

Avid & Co.’s Favorite Costumes

Celebrating Halloween in Downtown Davis is one of the most exciting things about growing up in this community.

Our local businesses pull together in a big way to create truly memorable experiences during Trick-or-Treat, and so do many of our neighbors in their own yards!

Choosing a Halloween costume can feel tricky, though.

Maybe you have a kiddo who wholeheartedly changes their mind every single day.

Or maybe you have a kiddo who wants to be a stick (please, please let them be the stick).

If your little ones are a little more open to suggestion this Halloween, we’ve teamed up with Avid & Co.—the toy store extension of Avid Reader—to share some favorite costumes on shelves this year.

      • For sensory sensitive kids who may not like even the idea of a costume on their body, a proper sword and shield go a long way. Add a dragon head? So cute.

      • A princess costume that feels like the real deal will live on as part of your child’s dress-up collection. The hoop skirts on many of their costume gowns this year add an extra element of magic to the occasion.

      • For older children and tweens (and occasional moms!), a collection of jersey knit classic Disney princess dresses that pairs great with sneaks. These are Disneyland-worthy and so comfortable.

      • High end accessories go a long way. Avid & Co.’s selection of crowns and tiaras turn any outfit into a legitimate occasion.

      • Gender is a construct. Let your child pair a fluffy skirt with a construction hat.

      • Support local businesses where you can; DIY or upcycle to supplement costume elements.
