The Pence’s Slice exhibit, now in its 12th year, is open for submission by California artists working in any medium (except video or sound). This is an ‘open theme’ exhibit, displaying art that is conceptually thoughtful, technically skilled, and representative of contemporary trends in art.
Women’s Work
PENCE GALLERY. Women artists have long used humor and satire to critique the unequal treatment of women, in areas from reproductive rights to their depiction in the media. Women’s Work is a sampling of contemporary sculpture and paintings by thirteen artists who redefine gender and femininity through their art. Free
Renewal: Paintings by Inga Poslitur
PENCE GALLERY. Inga Poslitur’s new series of oil paintings capture flowering plants in natural environments, as well as in lovely arrangements of bouquets in domestic settings. 11:30a—5p. Free
Curator’s Tour with Natalie Nelson
Curator’s Tour with Natalie Nelson
PENCE GALLERY. Nelson will lead a gallery walk-through of the Women’s Work exhibit, exploring how participating artists critique and challenge gender roles and current definitions of femininity in their work. Whether they are celebrating the contributions of specific women who have battled injustice and discrimination in their fight for social justice, or honoring women as a whole, these artists have much to say on the subject of being a woman. 2p—3:30p. Suggested Donation, $10
