25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
DAVIS MUSICAL THEATRE CO. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! For ages 13 & up. Fri. & Sat. 7:30p—10:30p; Sun. 2p—5p. $22
A Christmas Carol the Musical
WOODLAND OPERA HOUSE. Start the season right with this musical interpretation of Charles Dicken's classic tale featuring music and lyrics by Broadway heavy hitters, Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens. Learn more at woodlandoperahouse.org. 2p or 7:30p.
The Spokes: Unplugged
THE MELON BALL. Join for an evening of intimate, cabaret-style performances! The Spokes are the premier all female-identifying a cappella group at UC Davis since 2004, taking pride in cultivating an uplifting community of high voice singers and are dedicated to female empowerment. 7:30p—9:30p. $20
Seussical Jr.
DAVIS MUSICAL THEATRE CO. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. For all ages. Fri. 7p—9p; Sat. & Sun. 2p—4p. $12
