FICTION WRITERS & ASPIRING FICTION WRITERS

Two local novelists share their techniques for mastering “point of view.”

Avid Reader Bookstore
Wednesday, February 28
6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Judith Starkston writes historical fantasy set in the Bronze Age of the Greeks and Hittites. Her five novels bring women to the fore—whether the Trojan War captive Briseis or a remarkable Hittite queen whom history forgot, even though she ruled over one of the greatest empires of the ancient world.

Tim Schooley writes historical fiction. His novel The Wool Translator, a saga of interfaith love set in Western Europe in the 1480s, was short-listed for the Chaucer Award. His upcoming novel, The Circus of the Vanishing Elephant, builds from his experience as a clown with Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey Circus in the 1970s.

Mastering Point of View:

  • Points of view in contemporary fiction
  • Choosing the “correct” point of view
  • Avoiding “head-hopping”
  • “Deep” or “close” point of view
  • Multiple points of view in one novel

This two-hour workshop is free, with the purchase of one of the authors’ books from Avid Reader. Come out to enjoy an evening with fellow writers while studying some of the more challenging skills in fiction writing.
