The Artery presents “Whimsical Hats and Unique Felted Wraps” by Lucy Della Rosa. Her show, October 29 to November 21, ushers in the holiday season with a burst of colors and textures. On Friday, November 12, second Friday of the month, we will be open until 9 pm.
Lucy’s exhibit focuses on hats and scarves, which have happy memories for her. As a youngster, Lucy joined her mother, cousins, and aunts, on special excursions to a neighboring town. There, they could try on all kinds hats in a little hat shop. The best thrill was bringing home the favorite in a fancy hatbox.
With a background in weaving, Lucy has expanded her interest to Felting, giving textile art a new, creative twist. Lucy explains that Felting is a magical process that transforms loose piles of fiber into fabric or a piece of art. The strands are vigorously agitated with soap and water to compress them together, thus shrinking and strengthening the resulting cloth. Lucy works primarily with wool and silk fabrics, embellishing with fibers such as bamboo and viscose. Using various techniques, Lucy’s labor of love takes many days.
The holidays are coming with places to go and people to see! A unique hat or scarf would add fun and individuality to your winter outfits.
