Quesstonnal Reed is a mixed media artist who creates unconventional fashion art. “Being a practicing professional in fashion design, vestiges of the industry accost me. Canvas becomes paper to be painted and fibers demand to embed themselves through processes I constantly endeavor to discover. Pearls and rhinestones desire to add their charm and a touch of romance to some of my pieces. Even buttons show up unannounced, ready to include their beauty into the foray.”
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Apparel Marketing and Design, Reed pursued a career as a fashion professor. She eventually began to apply paper and jewels to canvas as an outlet for unrestricted design. “I wanted a canvas without seams to explore how I could shape fashion out of paper and still keep the trimmings.” Her unique personal style is inspired by Venusian, Vintage, and Victorian royalty.
Reed’s artwork has been shown in the northern California exhibitions “Fine Art Holiday Show” (Kondos Gallery) and” Inner Soul Show” (Uptown Studios) where she designed a miniature paper shoe encrusted with gold chains and beads. Reed will present a trunk show at the public reception that will contain artwork not shown in the exhibition – keepsakes, greeting cards, and smaller works – that will be available for purchase.
This exhibit runs from March 5 through April 1. There will be a public reception for the artist on Friday, March 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Public receptions for local artists will also be held at various venues on that same evening in conjunction with the Davis Downtown 2nd Friday ArtAbout, facebook.com/davisartabout.
