Herstory 1 & 2: The Legal History of Chinese American Women showcases the legal milestones and often harrowing stories of these brave Chinese American women. Curated by Dr. Chang C. Chen.

The exhibit, curated by Dr. Chang C. Chen, aka Dr. Chiu Chang (邱彰), showcases the legal milestones and often harrowing stories of these brave women. Before their lives and accomplishments are completely lost in the annals of history, the author aims to tell Herstory and give voice to those Chinese American women who paved the way for our past, present, and future.

Dr. Chen grew up in Taiwan and immigrated to America 50 years ago to pursue her graduate studies. After obtaining her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Rutgers University and J.D. from Columbia University Law School, she launched an illustrious legal career spanning 35 years. Not one to just practice law, she was elected as a Taiwan senator and hosted four television shows. During the 1990s, her most popular program, “Chiu Chang Talking Law,” on Star-TV in Hong Kong, catapulted her into the limelight. She swiftly became a celebrity female attorney and personality, still to this day a real feat in Taiwan. Dr. Chen has authored 83 books on topics ranging from law to marriage. Herstory: The Legal History of Chinese American Women was her first book in English and the first exhibition she curated.

Exhibit runs March – May at all Yolo County Library Branches except South Davis Montgomery.
