Christina Kent expands upon her observations of everyday life in the city in a new series of oil paintings titled Day to Night. As a resident of San Francisco, Kent is interested in going beyond celebrating well-known locations and views, to capture intimate scenes of daily life. In her paintings, restaurant workers prepare dishes, friends catch up on the street, and drivers navigate traffic down a steep hillside. She builds these compositions with an eye to the subtle nuances of light and shadow, using gestural brushwork to reveal the changes in the landscape from morning until night.
