The Davis Senior High School Symphonic Band and Yolo Community Band are joining forces to present a free concert for the community at the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall (315 W. 14th St, Davis) on Tuesday June 10 at 7 pm. The concert, “Bridging the Years with Music”, will highlight the idea that performing instrumental band music can be a lifetime adventure and pleasure….the skills learned as a student musician stay with you for your lifetime and can continue to be enjoyed and pursued after graduation as a community band member! The Davis High School band performance will feature movements from the Holst “Second Suite in F” and the catchy Latin rhythms of Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture”. The community band will perform selections from Martin Ellerby’s dramatic “Cane River Murals”, and the always entertaining “Suite of Old American Dances” by Robert Russell Bennett. A special number will be “Concerto No. 1 for Clarinet and Symphonic Band”, which Brazilian composer Marcelo Afonso dedicated to clarinet soloist Luiz Coelho, the band and choir instructor at Holmes Junior High in Davis, and also the Assistant Director of Yolo Community Band.
