The John Natsoulas Gallery is proud to announce the return of the Davis Jazz Beat Festival after a 6-year hiatus! Experience live jazz, poetry readings, and performance painting on two stages. This interactive, multidisciplinary festival features over 50 musicians and performers- including actor, poet, and writer Peter Coyote.
Join us for the only festival of its kind in America! This lively collaboration between poets, jazz musicians and painters is the only completely free jazz festival on the West Coast. Experience an intimate gathering filled with poetry readings and painting improvisation set to the rhythm of live jazz. This is a unique opportunity for attendees to experience exclusive performances by well-known artists of all kinds. With dozens of musicians and artists performing, there is truly something for everyone. This 13th annual event is the premiere collaborative festival in the region. Combining visual art, music, and dance this multidisciplinary celebration evokes the true spirit of the Beat Movement. This year’s festival honors the 70th anniversary of Allen Ginsberg premiere reading of Howl. Dr. Andy Jones, former poet laureate of Davis, will recite the poem in full to memorialize that revolutionary moment in poetry history.
In addition to the live mutli-disciplenary performances, the John Natsoulas Gallery will exhibit the Lyrical Vision: 6 Gallery 1954-1957 Revisited. This exhibition will feature paintings and works on paper by the artists who spearheaded the Beat Movement – Wally Hedrick, Deborah Remington, David Simpson, John Allen Ryan, Hassel Smith, Leo Valledor, James Weeks, Maneul Neri, and many others!
