CITY RECEIVES $1 MILLION FROM REPRESENTATIVE MIKE THOMPSON
by: Jenny Tan, City of Davis
Representative Mike Thompson presented a $1 million check to the City of Davis for the Davis Amtrak Station as one of his Community Funded Projects for Fiscal Year 2026. The funds will go toward bicycle and pedestrian improvements, including building a connection to Olive Drive to provide access for residents south of the station. Amtrak is currently developing an undercrossing connecting its ADA improvement project at the station.
The Davis Train Station is one of the busiest stations in the region and serves over 10% of the total Capitol Corridor ridership. This important station is one of 18 stations in northern California along the 170-mile rail corridor. The Capitol Corridor has 15 daily round trips that stop at the Davis Station. This project would provide additional access for bicyclists, pedestrians and residents to enter and exit downtown Davis and connect to South Davis in a more direct and safer route, without motor vehicles.
“We appreciate Representative Thompson’s support in helping us move this important project forward,” said Mayor Donna Neville. “This investment will make a meaningful difference in how people access the station and navigate our city for years to come.”
“We are grateful to Representative Thompson for his dedication to our community and focus on public safety,” said City Manager Daryel Dunston. “These funds will help us improve multimodal accessibility to the station, increase access from South Davis to downtown and enhance our bicycling and pedestrian infrastructure.”
The current location of the Davis train station was built in 1913 after the original, which was built in 1868, was burned down in a fire. The Mission Revival style train station is a historic landmark and is currently listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
