Davis Arts Center Announces Summer Programming

If you, your children or grandchildren need creative inspiration, materials, or direction for art projects this summer, the Davis Arts Center is looking to help. They’ve created a series of summer programs, complete with materials, instructions, videos, and online “office” hours.

Giving careful consideration to the risks involved with resuming in-person programming for a center that serves a children, teens, and adults, the Davis Arts Center staff has—with more than a little research and many brainstorming sessions—come up with a plan to offer a modified version of their traditional camps.

Their virtual Summer Arts Camp will run for five weeks, from July 6 – August 7, with each week exploring a new medium: Drawing in Color, Painting, Drawing in Black and White, Sculpture and Clay, and Collage. Although they are called “virtual,” the camps can be enjoyed with or without screen time.

“Now that our children have been engaged in distance learning, our staff realized that more time on our devices may not function as the break from the daily grind that summer usually provides. The online supplemental material is designed to enhance your camper’s experience, but not be the focus of it.”

Here is how it works: The Friday before camp starts, an art kit can be picked up curbside at Davis Arts Center. Shipping is also available for campers who register in time to receive kits.

Art Kits will include all materials needed for the week, an activity checklist for caregivers and campers, and written project instructions. Links to online instructional videos from Davis Arts Center instructors and other arts organizations are included. Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in three optional drop-in Zoom meetings to discuss projects, show off work in progress and submit questions for Q+A sessions.

Camp is designed to keep campers creatively engaged with fun, at-home projects designed for ages 8 years and up, but suitable for campers starting at age 5 with parental help. And the staff at Davis Arts Center—who look forward to greeting you on Fridays this summer while we are passing out art kits—all agree that teens and adults will find projects to do as well!

Cost is $100 per week which includes one Art Kit. Additional Art Kits can be purchased for $25 each. Davis Arts Center also offers an early bird discount (expires on June 22, so sign up soon) for all five weeks at $450! If you would like to ship a kit to a family member, there is a shipping option as well.

Please note: Due to the time it takes to build the kits and order materials, you must purchase camps at least a week in advance. Registration deadlines are approaching soon!
