Annie Main, co-founder of Good Humus Farm and a longtime advocate for farmers and rural communities, has been named Farm Advocate of the Year as part of the 2026 California Farm Champion Awards, presented by Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF).
The California Farm Champion Awards honor farmers and food system leaders from across the state whose work is strengthening local agriculture and advancing a more just and resilient food system. The 2026 honorees will be recognized through celebratory videos released in conjunction with CAFF’s upcoming California Small Farm Conference.
Farming in Yolo County since 1976, Main has spent decades demonstrating that farming and advocacy go hand in hand. Through her leadership with Concerned Citizens of Yolo County, she helped organize farmers to document real-world groundwater declines—bringing on-the-ground experience into local water policy discussions. That work recently contributed to a 10-month moratorium on new agricultural wells in critical areas and a county commitment to further research.
At Good Humus Farm, Main and her family have built a model rooted in ecological stewardship, cooperation, and community care. The farm has mentored generations of farmers and secured its future through an agricultural conservation easement.
“Annie reminds us that advocacy is itself a form of farming,” said CAFF. “It’s about tending relationships, protecting resources, and standing up for what comes next.”
