Summer camps and classes at the Davis Arts Center are a rite of passage in Davis—sculpting the papier-mâché mask, making the famous ceramic name plate, getting a taste of being on stage. This year, the Davis Arts Center wants to make sure every child who wants to join the fun can, through their scholarship program.
The DAC has partnered with their own donors and the Davis Odd Fellows to create two scholarship programs to support local families.
“At Davis Arts Center, we believe every child deserves access to arts education, including our camps, classes, and workshops. To make that a reality, we’ve created two scholarship programs reaching children across Yolo County,” Sam King, Executive Director of the Davis Arts Center said. “Our Davis Arts Scholarship Program is available to any child and is funded by our generous donors. Our new Arts Access Scholarship Program, funded entirely by the Davis Odd Fellows Encampment Program, is available to any child who is currently in, or has previously been in, foster care.”
The DAC’s famous Art Explorers: All Day Summer Arts Camp is a week of art adventures, friendship and fun. Students explore ceramics, paper mache, painting, drawing, and mixed media. Camp Counselors guide campers in fun activities and outdoor play. All materials are provided—students just need to bring a water bottle, snack, and sunscreen.
“We love welcoming back returning campers and welcoming in new campers every summer. Throughout the year we have campers who bring in projects they created at home, inspired by their camp experience the year before,” King said. “The total arts immersion at Davis Arts Center camp is pure magic, and honestly, our favorite eight weeks of the year.”
