Managing Homelessness in Davis

The Davis Friends Meeting is hosting a community forum on “Managing Homelessness in Davis” on October 9 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Meetinghouse, 345 L Street.  The panelists are as follows:

 

Rick Moniz –  A retired professor at Chabot College where he taught for 37 years.  His primary focus is with the ongoing poverty crisis in the country.  While in Davis, he has volunteered and participated with STEAC, NAMI, the Interfaith Rotating Shelter, Fourth and Hope, Interfaith Housing Justice of Davis, and other organizations dealing with poverty.

 

Vernon McZeek – Downtown Streets Team Program Manager, Davis. Mr. McZeek manages the Davis Respite Center on L Street just north of Fifth Street. Vernon has a wealth of experience from over a decade working with unsheltered populations.

 

Alfred Melbourne – Creator and Program Director of Three Sisters Gardens based in West Sacramento. Alfred employs “at risk” (he calls them “at potential”) youth, to feed the homeless and food-insecure. He has  helped donate thousands of pounds of food to the Yolo Food Locker each year.

 

Geoff Rohde – Long-time Davis resident and activist who helped the City of Davis convert the Davis Migrant Center south of town to a winter shelter for the homeless. He has a wealth of insight to share about homelessness in this area.
