This week marks two years since the deaths of Karim Najm and David Breaux. Friends and family invite the public to visit their memorial sites to leave flowers, offerings, or messages of remembrance.
Najm and Breaux were killed during a string of violent stabbings in Davis in April 2023. Their deaths, along with the stabbing of a third victim who survived, prompted an outpouring of grief and reflection across the city.
David Breaux, often referred to as the “Compassion Guy,” was a beloved fixture in downtown Davis, known for his quiet presence at the corner of 3rd and C Streets where he invited passersby to reflect on the meaning of compassion. A bench dedicated to his memory stands at that very spot, where community members are welcome to gather and leave flowers or tributes.
Karim Najm, a UC Davis student remembered for his kindness and generosity, was killed while biking home through Sycamore Park. A memorial near the site of his death serves as a space for those who wish to honor his life and legacy.
The trial against the suspect is underway in Yolo County right now; he’s charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
