Tree Davis Kicks Off Planting Season with a Bike Tour

By Erin Donley Marineau | September 21, 2021

Tree Davis will kick-off its 2021-22 tree planting season with a tree-themed bike tour.

Beginning at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 25, coffee and donuts will be served under the shade of a 22-year old Texas red oak and thornless mesquite at 1009 Kent Dr. At 9 am, Dr. Greg McPherson will lead a 6-mile tour with stops at nine Great Trees to share their stories. The tour will finish at the Farmer’s Market at 11:00am.

Participants ready to start the 2019 Great Tree Search Bike Tour.

Tree Davis has asked residents to nominate Great Trees and 33 specimens have been recorded in one of four categories: Unusual Size, Species, Form and History. The Great Tree Search is helping residents better understand and appreciate the educational, environmental, and cultural contributions of our trees. It is also a perfect way to connect with community while doing what we do best in Davis – riding our bikes!

Sign up for the Great Tree Search Bike Tour at https://www.treedavis.org/volunteer/. While you’re there, check out our many weekend opportunities to plant and steward local trees this season.

Erin Donley Marineau, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of Tree Davis
