PENCE GALLERY. Participants will learn design, composition, shape, line, point, value, and color, as well as wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolor techniques. Students will produce an interactive artwork by combining watercolor expression and abstraction, sketches of natural objects, and Chinese calligraphy. PENCE GALLERY. Both assemblage and sculpture combine various objects to create a three-dimensional work of art. A sculpture may use a limited palette of materials or colors to unify the piece to make it cohesive. In this three-hour workshop, students will learn the basics of sculpture with artist Amy Vidra. Participants will be guided through the fundamentals of sculpture and will have time to stroll through Davis to find their own inspirational found objects to include in their pieces. Projects are designed to introduce kids to making their own artwork by experimenting with creative ideas and materials. PENCE GALLERY. Through the process of art making, participants have opportunities for discussion, education, and connecting with peers in a safe and supportive space in the Pence Learning Center under the guidance of facilitators Amy Vidra and Lyndsey Rocca. Participants must be 18 or older, and no art experience is necessary. This is a free program, and all materials are provided. Limited to the first 8 participants who register. 10a—11:45a. Free
PENCE GALLERY. Learn about Putah Creek’s native plants and trees and why they are important to our local ecosystem! Use your observational skills to create watercolor illustrations of flowers, branches and pinecones and discover unique patterns of leaves and roots by making rubbings and prints. Art in Action engages kids in art projects that are fun, creative, and collaborative with their family members. This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12, with no pre-registration required. 1p—3p. $4 members/$8 non-members.
