A Message from Chancellor May:

Welcome to Picnic Day 2021!

The roots of Picnic Day stretch back to 1909, when the public
was invited to bring a picnic lunch and celebrate the opening
of our first dormitory, North Hall, and tour its new dairy barn.
From those humble roots a century ago, a great Aggie tradition
was born.

Picnic Day has persevered over the decades, through times of
peace and turmoil, but it’s safe to say there’s never been a year
like this. After taking 2020 off due to the pandemic, Picnic Day is
back for 2021 in a virtual setting.

Through this virtual open house, you’ll see first-hand all of the
great work and Aggie spirit that shines across campus. You’ll see
why UC Davis isn’t just one of the nation’s top public universities,
but a fun and dynamic place to be.

Plenty of adventure is waiting. Get inspired today through
musical and dance performances. Learn how to make some new
crafts. Watch demonstrations from departments all across
campus. If you need to stretch, don’t miss the chance to take a
virtual yoga class tday.

No matter how you choose to participate in Picnic Day 2021,
embrace this opportunity to stay connected to UC Davis. In
times of great challenge, the UC Davis community never fails to
rally together, outgrow all expectations and support one
another.

LeShelle and I would like to thank the students and volunteers
who’ve made Picnic Day 2021 possible. Picnic Day is the
largest student-run event in the nation, and we appreciate the
thoughtfulness and planning that goes into making this day such
a success, whether it happens during a pandemic or in “normal”
times. With the 2021 theme of “Discovering Silver Linings,” I know
our extended community will take time to enjoy Picnic Day, an
amazing UC Davis tradition.

Go Ags!
Best regards,
Chancellor Gary S. May
