The Davis Downtown Business Association (DDBA) is launching a huge collective art project called Heart to Hearts. The DDBA’s art subcommittee hopes to engage dozens if not hundreds of community members to symbolically give their hearts to downtown small businesses.
You’re creative… right? We think everyone is, so here’s how you can help: We are looking for artists of all ages and skill levels to create hearts as an expression of love for small businesses and our community. Hearts can also be designed in memoriam of those lost to us, or as a symbol of hope for the future. We will accept drawings, paintings, graphic design, and other creative submissions. The only rule is that your artwork fit within the shape of a standard heart. Submissions that do not fit the shape of a heart template may be cropped or modified.
Once all submissions have been gathered, our creative team will create collective hearts in celebration of the essential role art plays in our hearts, in our lives and in the Davis community. Each collage will be printed on a postcard that will be available for purchase online, with all proceeds going to downtown Davis businesses. Community members will be encouraged to purchase the postcards. With each purchase the buyer will choose a downtown Davis business from a drop-down menu to receive the proceeds.
Our local businesses love the community, and this art project offers the opportunity to show them some love back. Artists can expect their work to get high visibility. Last year, our Communal Art Project had over 100,000 unique visitors through our Facebook page, so we will host a Facebook page for this year’s Heart to Hearts project as well. In addition to each artists’ heart being printed on postcards, we anticipate finding additional uses for hearts to decorate the community.
How to Enter:
- Design a heart—be creative! Some ideas: A heart with your favorite downtown business • A heart in memory of a loved one • A heart with a picture of your favorite activity or with something you love to do in Davis • A heart with your favorite pet, person, or food • An abstract heart • A heart with your goals for 2021, or just something that you LOVE!
- Please make sure the art is in the shape of a HEART or we may have to crop or modify your design.
- Between 1/25 and 2/28 use our submission form to submit a high-quality image of your artwork. The submission form will be available online at www.DavisDowntown.com.
