DESCRIPTION:Rick Bartow | September 17\, 2025 – January 18\, 2026 \nThe solo-exhibition features artworks by award-winning artist Rick Bartow\, from 1979 to 2015. A Vietnam Veteran\, life-long musician and song- writer\, widower\, and enrolled member of the Mad River Band of Wiyot Indians\, Bartow is considered one of the most important leaders in contemporary Native American art. \nMany of the artworks on exhibit were generously gifted to the Gorman Museum of Native American Art by the Richard E. Bartow Estate and Froelick Gallery\, with additional pieces on loan from private collections.

DESCRIPTION:Bound in Time: Exploring Women’s Journeys through Scrapbooks and Photo Albums \nShields Library (Lobby – Archives and Special Collections) \nSeptember 24\, 2025 – March 20\, 2026 \nThis exhibit showcases the journeys of various women who traveled through or lived in California between 1901 and 1956. The exhibit recreates pieces of their journeys through the pages included in their scrapbooks and photo albums. The photographs and descriptions detail journeys full of friendship\, family and independent achievements. They also reveal more about the woman behind the album.

Williams’ layered mixed-media paintings incorporate roots\, branches\, and floral subjects. She builds and excavates her surfaces with paints\, oil sticks\, ink\, pencil and collage\, revealing traces like memory. Steinert-Foley’s sculptures give tactile\, three-dimensional form to themes fundamental to the human endeavor. Her figurative works address the tension between religion and procreation\, while her Boats (Vessels) carry people\, goods\, and culture across time and space. \nA Conversation with the Artists\nSaturday\, January 10\, 2-3:30 PM\n$10 (Free for Students & Members) \nJoin us for a fun and stimulating talk with artists Diane Williams and Maryann Steinert-Foley\, whose exhibit The Realm of Possibility is currently on display at the Pence.
