SUMMARY:Third No Kings Yolo March and Rally
DESCRIPTION:Following in the footsteps of farm workers in their historic march across the Tower Bridge with the farm workers movement 60 years ago\, Indivisible Yolo is joining with the Sacramento Labor Council for Latin American Advancement AFL-CIO and Change to Win\, along with Davis Phoenix Coalition\, to host the third No Kings Yolo on March 28. The event will begin with a democracy fair at River Walk Park in West Sacramento at 10:30am with activities for all ages and a brief speaker program. Supporters will then march at noon across the Tower Bridge to the state capitol to join Indivisible Sacramento’s No Kings rally. Learn more and sign up: https://www.indivisibleyolo.org/no-kings-yolo. \nNo Kings Yolo\, this time themed “We are the Power! Somos el Poder!\,” is part of the largest single-day national mobilization in history expected to attract millions nationwide as people gather to protest Trump administration policies – including ICE terrorization\, unauthorized wars and threats to working families in the community – and to remind the president that America is a democracy. \n“We are proud to bring people together from across Yolo County to show that we will fight to protect one another and our country against this authoritarian regime\,” said Steve Murphy\, co-chair\, Indivisible Yolo. “We are grateful to the Sacramento Labor Council for Latin American Advancement AFL-CIO and Change to Win for standing with us today. As we march\, we honor farm workers and continue to fight against the exploitation\, discrimination\, criminalization and unsafe working conditions they still face. This year marks 60 years since farm workers first marched from Delano to Sacramento. At No Kings\, we march once again to show that power will always belong to the people – all people – not to a would-be king.” \nPartners to date include Davis College Democrats\, League of Women Voters Yolo\nCounty\, SEIU 2015\, States Win Yolo (formerly Sister District Yolo)\, West Sacramento Democrats\, Yolo County Democratic Party and Yolo Democratic Socialists of America. \n“We stand in solidarity with people from across the nation to say that we\, the people\, will not stop fighting back\,” said Fatima Garcia\, president\, Sacramento Labor Council for Latin American Advancement AFL-CIO and Change to Win. “We also stand in support of independent worker unions and the right of workers to organize freely for dignity\, safety and fair treatment. Today’s struggles\, imperialist wars\, forced migration\, low wages\, lack of protections and threats to migrant workers remind us that the fight for dignity and justice in the fields is far from over.” \nIndivisible Yolo is the local chapter of the nationwide grassroots movement Indivisible. Indivisible Yolo’s mission is to promote progressive policies by activating people to engage in their democracy at all levels of government. The group organizes and advocates for policy goals and to get out the vote to elect candidates who pursue those policies. These complementary efforts ensure democracy works for everyone and that those in power do\, too. For more information: www.indivisibleyolo.org. \nThe Sacramento Labor Council for Latin American Advancement is the local chapter of the leading national organization for Indigenous\, Latino\, Chicano/a workers and their families. It was created out of the need to educate\, organize and mobilize Latino/as in the labor movement and has expanded its influence to organize Latino/as in an effort to impact workers’ rights and their influence in the political process. The council represents the interest of millions of Latino/a workers in the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO)\, independent unions and all their affiliate unions. For more information: www.lclaa.org/sacramento. \nThe mission of Davis Phoenix Coalition is to promote a world where all people are safe\, respected and free from violence. The coalition engages and unites the Davis community in eliminating intolerance\, preventing hate and promoting a broader civic culture that embraces all aspects of its diverse community. The ghost-with-the-most comes to the stage in Beetlejuice JR.\, the frightfully funny musical based on the beloved motion picture turned Broadway phenomenon. SUMMARY:Davis Craft and Vintage Fair
DESCRIPTION:Davis Craft and Vintage Fair began as the Square Tomatoes Craft Fair more than 10 years ago! The event was started by instructors from the UC Davis Craft Center in order to have a monthly craft fair for local artisans and the local community. We embraced local vintage vendors in 2017\, we’ve grown and we are still home to local artists and makers from the Davis and greater Sacramento area. \nWe collaborate with local non-profits starting with Couleurs Vives Art Studio who joined us in 2018! Many of our talented vendors can be found at other festivals like the Davis Phoenix Coalition’s Pride Fest\, the I-House’s International Festival\, and 2nd Friday ArtAbouts on E Street Plaza. \nExpect to see friendly vendors with local handmade and original art\, crafts\, quality vintage items\, upcycled treasures\, earth-friendly creations\, good food\, and more. Free live music fills the open space for a lively atmosphere so be sure to stop by and join us!  \n

SUMMARY:Celebration of Life for Dr. Paul Aikin
DESCRIPTION:Paul Aikin passed away on February 4\, 2026. Paul had been facing health challenges for several years\, and since September he had been receiving hospice care at home\, surrounded by his wife of 53 years\, Nancy\, along with his family\, close friends\, and devoted caregivers. His bed was in the middle of their kitchen\, and he was never alone. In that simple arrangement of daily life reorganized around care\, the bonds he had cultivated over decades revealed their depth—attachment that holds a life in its most vulnerable hours. \nIn those final months\, Paul continued to do what he had always done – show warmth\, kindness\, and appreciation to the people around him. Nancy shared that he repeatedly expressed how happy he was\, right there\, with them. \nOne of five brothers\, Paul grew up in Michigan\, shaped\, as he wrote\, by “mid-western values of responsibility\, hard work\, respect and compassion for others.” His father\, an engineer\, was the only extended family member who was not a farmer. His mother filled his childhood with spiritual training and taught him the value of caring for and serving others – something that stayed with him for life. \nPaul’s professional life spanned over four decades. As a clinical psychologist\, UC Davis hired him to teach in the Psychology Department and in the UC Davis Counseling Center. In addition\, he became the first Ph.D. clinical psychologist in private practice in the Sacramento Valley in 1971. Paul’s work was more than a profession. For him\, it was a calling. What was necessary for lasting healing became a commitment to understanding and passing onto others. \nNancy was studying at UC Davis in 1970 when she and Paul first met and eventually became a couple. After Nancy finished her doctoral training and began her private practice in 1982\, Paul and Nancy often joined each other in teaching\, training\, writing\, and clinical work. \nThose who knew Paul and Nancy knew their love and devotion as something you could see and feel. They were “one” in the best way possible. There was a purity in Paul’s love and presence that was truly healing. His wife and family were so enhanced by being with him. \nPaul leaves behind a son and a daughter\, daughter-in-law\, and two granddaughters\, who he was also completely devoted to. He loved spending his free time with family; it was a true joy for him. In addition to a very full professional life\, Paul absolutely loved nature and outdoor activities such as fishing\, bird-watching\, hiking\, gardening\, nature walks\, and pheasant hunting. He especially loved being able to share these things with his children. Nancy and Paul’s shared love of nature inspired them to purchase a cabin in the Sierras that became Paul’s favorite place away from home. There are so many special memories that were made at the cabin\, for them and many of their family members and dear friends. \nPaul touched so many lives and will be missed by so many. His family and friends will always miss him\, but still feel connected to how precious he was and what he gave to us all. And we feel so incredibly blessed for all the years that we got to be with him. \nA memorial service celebrating Paul’s life will be held on March 29th at 11:00 am in the gazebo at the Carolee Shields White Flower Garden on the UC Davis campus in Davis\, CA. The service will be followed by a gathering at the Aikin’s home beginning at 2:00 pm. We will be recording the service and the link will be available for those of you who want to experience it but cannot attend in person.

SUMMARY:The Crucible @ the Woodland Opera House
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Tom and Meg Stallard\nThe Crucible by Arthur Miller\nMarch 20 – April 4\, 2026 \nSet in 1692 Salem\, Massachusetts\, The Crucible follows the eruption of mass hysteria in a close-knit town after a group of young girls is discovered dancing in the woods. To avoid punishment\, the girls begin accusing townspeople of witchcraft\, igniting a wave of fear that fractures the wider community. As the court demands confessions\, respected citizens are forced to choose between self-preservation and truth. The accusations spiral into tragedy\, revealing how lies\, power\, and fear can destroy a society from within. Written in 1953 by famed American playwright Arthur Miller\, the play is in part an allegory for the anti-communist hysteria of the McCarthy era\, exploring the dangers of false accusations and the abuse of power. \nFor information on purchasing tickets please visit www.WoodlandOperaHouse.org or call our Box Office at (530) 666-9617. \n$20-45
