SUMMARY:Davis High School Presents Urinetown—The Musical!
DESCRIPTION:Urinetown: The Musical \nSet in a grim\, Gotham-like city ravaged by a 20-year drought\, Urinetown imagines a world where private toilets are outlawed. Citizens must pay to use public restrooms\, all controlled by a single\, corrupt corporation that profits off one of humanity’s most basic needs. When an unlikely hero decides he’s had enough\, a rebellion is born—one that challenges authority\, exposes hypocrisy\, and asks what freedom really costs. \nHilariously funny and touchingly human\, Urinetown reexamines the very notion of what a musical can be\, proving that even in the darkest circumstances\, revolution can begin with a laugh—or a pee. \nLocation\nBrunelle Theater @ 315 W 14th Street. \nPerformances\nFriday March 6\, Saturday March 7\, Friday March 13\, Saturday March 14 @7:00PM\nSunday March 8 and Sunday March 15 @2:00PM \nTickets\n$15 general admission\, $10 for DJUSD students\, and $5 on Sundays for DJUSD students. \nYou can buy your tickets online at https://sites.google.com/view/davishightheatre/home or at the door. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Emery Villains Live @ The Melon Ball
DESCRIPTION:Emery Villains formed in 2019 by Scott Holderby (lead vocals and guitar) with Rhoda Jean Steen (vocals and guitar). The Carolina Drifters from the 50’s\, featuring Rhoda and her brothers Paul and Clarence were the backup band for the Black Jack Wayne Show on channel 2\, backing Johnny Cash\, Buck Owens and others. Rhoda Jean Steen’s presence serves as a direct link to the roots of rockabilly and the Carolina Drifters’ contributions to the genre. Her participation with Emery Villains is a beautiful blend of past and present\, ensuring the music’s legacy continues. \nScott looked over to his guitar player Danny White (vocals and lead guitar) from Mordred to do the finger picking. Scott then turned to a high school friend\, Hank Alva (vocals and upright bass) to round out the groove of the tunes. \nThat’s absolutely right! Emery Villains is a great example of a modern band keeping the rockabilly sound alive and fresh for a new generation of fans. They’re part of a newer wave of rockabilly bands that are blending traditional sounds with modern energy and style. \nBands like Emery Villains\, and others like Brian Setzer\, Reverend Horton Heat\, and Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys\, are all helping to carry the torch for rockabilly music\, while also pushing the genre forward with their own unique twists and interpretations. \nIt’s great to see rockabilly’s legacy living on through these bands\, and introducing the music to new fans who may not have been born when the genre first emerged. They’re keeping the spirit of rockabilly alive\, with its signature blend of country\, blues\, and early rock ‘n’ roll\, while also making it relevant and exciting for contemporary audiences. \nEmery Villains\, in particular\, has a great sound that blends classic rockabilly with a modern edge. Their music has a high-energy feel that’s perfect for dancing\, and their lyrics often have a fun\, tongue-in-cheek vibe that’s reminiscent of the genre’s early days. \nPresented by Left of the Dial and KDRT \n  \n$20 suggested donation

SUMMARY:Showing of the film "Sudan\, Remember Us"
DESCRIPTION:Davis Friends are asking people to come and learn about this over-looked war in Sudan. The media does not focus on the Sudan war because the Ukraine and Gaza conflicts are of much greater western strategic interest. SUMMARY:Stories on Stage Davis Brings Two Compelling Voices to March Event
DESCRIPTION:Stories on Stage Davis Brings Two Compelling Voices to March Event \nStories on Stage Davis returns on Saturday\, March 8th with an afternoon of powerful fiction and a rare opportunity: the chance to meet the authors whose work is being performed. \nSince 2013\, the series has been transforming literature into live performance\, with professional actors delivering dramatic readings of short fiction while the authors themselves are present to discuss their work. It’s an experience that has made Stories on Stage a favorite among local book clubs\, many of whom use upcoming author appearances to guide their reading selections — a chance to engage with a writer’s work and then meet the person behind it\, all in the same afternoon. \nThe series has built a reputation for pairing emerging writers from the Davis and Woodland regions with established voices from the Bay Area and surrounding areas\, occasionally\, from out of state — making it one of the few literary venues in the region where local talent shares the stage with nationally published authors. March’s program reflects exactly that range. \nKarl Nastrom’s “The Willows\,” published in Collateral Journal\, is a fierce and tender story set in 1974 Minnesota. Eight-year-old Alison Stenner is done being pushed around. When a former friend won’t stop taunting her about her father — a Vietnam veteran whose injury left him with a limp — Alison marches down from the willows where the girls always play and challenges him to a one-play football game. What follows is a story about grief\, loyalty\, and what we inherit from the people we love. Nastrom\, a Minneapolis attorney and first-time published fiction writer\, brings a striking debut voice to the series. \nCalder G. Lorenz brings the afternoon into the present with “Dillinger\,” a story set in contemporary San Francisco. Dil rides as an observer in autonomous vehicles\, watching the wheel “spins and spins and spins” through the city’s chaotic streets — a deceptively quiet premise that opens into something much larger. Lorenz is the author of the debut novel One Way Down (Or Another) and holds an MFA from the University of San Francisco. He currently works at The Gubbio Project in the Mission District. \nThe event takes place in the private room at Sudwerk Brewing Company\, 2001 Second Street\, Davis. Doors open and the program begins at 4:00 p.m.\, with the evening wrapping up around 6:00. Attendance is free\, with donations warmly welcomed. \nFor more information\, visit storiesonstagedavis.com \nFree\, donations warmly welcomed

SUMMARY:Becoming\, Belonging\, Being\, and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:A Filipino musical storytelling event \n  \nThis immersive experience weaves together storytelling and live Filipino music\, inviting the audience into a contemplative yet communal journey centered on the themes of Becoming\, Belonging\, Being\, and Beyond. \nThe narrative is anchored by the story of Dr. Julie Arellano\, alongside the inspiring stories of Filipino Americans in the Sacramento community—Claire Oliveros\, PhD\, Pauline Roselada\, Karlo Feliciano\, and Thea Feliciano. \nDr. Arellano is joined by Steven Johnson\, Eileen Lichnock\, and Dr. Alex Mallari in performing live Filipino music throughout the program. Their music lifts the stories and shapes the emotional arc of the evening. Earlier songs invite introspection and emotional depth\, gradually moving toward joyful celebration. The central role of music in the event mirrors its central role in Filipino culture. \nWhile rooted in Filipino culture\, the experience is designed to be meaningful for people of all backgrounds. It is intended to bring forth reflection on one’s own journey\, or that of one’s family—paths shaped by survival and the search for opportunity\, identity\, and home. \nLight audience participation opens the event\, followed by quiet listening during the narratives and music. Attendees engage in self-reflection with a workbook as their companion during this introspective phase. The event ends with a lively communal activity. Filipino food elements are included as part of the experience\, adding warmth and a sense of Filipino hospitality. \n  \nPresale through 3/7/26: $20 general admission; $15 for I-House members and students $25 at the door/$20 for students
