SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout at the Pence Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pence Gallery for our 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception on February 13\, 6-9 PM. Enjoy browsing multiple art exhibits\, shopping in our Seconds Sale\, complimentary wine\, and an art-themed scavenger hunt. Free admission! \nManuel Fernando Rios: When They Reminisce Over You | Feb. 7 – Mar. 29\nIn his exhibit\, Manuel Fernando Rios shares his interest in themes that explore his Chicano heritage\, as well as his family’s history and experiences. Blurring the line between naturalism and abstraction\, the artist embraces the use of complex design patterns and photography to make a powerful statement. \nCharlene Will: Here for a While | Jan. 9 – Feb. 28\nView a solo exhibit by Charlene Will\, the recipient of the 2025 Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award. Her work is rooted in a reverence for nature. Working with oils on canvas\, she uses traditional and self-taught brushwork\, glazes\, and the removal of layers to reveal the ephemeral qualities of light and color found in various natural ecosystems. \nSeconds Sale | Feb. 13 – Mar. 6\nArtists often decide to part with works that are experimental\, have a small flaw\, are older pieces\, or duplicates\, so that they can clear space and start new projects\, sharing those works with the people in a ‘seconds sale.’ Find unique works of art from 25+ professional artists\, such as ceramics\, paintings\, textile art\, and more in the sale upstairs. \nMaris Kaplan: Amateur | Jan. 9 – Feb. 18\nWith a focus on sustainability\, Maris Kaplan’s work often incorporates secondhand materials such as thrifted fabric\, upcycled clothing\, and found objects. On display along the stairway\, this series showcases experimentation with new techniques and materials\, embracing wobbly lines\, crooked stitches\, unexpected shapes\, and random color combinations. \nScavenger Hunt: Join us for a fun\, art-themed scavenger hunt at the Pence during the 2nd Friday ArtAbout. Complete all of the clues by exploring our exhibits for the chance to win a special prize. \n— \nVisit the Pence and other venues in Downtown Davis for the 2nd Friday ArtAbout artwalk. We will have printed ArtAbout guides available that week. SUMMARY:Author Talk: Kallie Emblidge
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome Davis native Kallie Emblidge to hear about her debut novel\, Two Left Feet. \nAbout the Book \nA Premier League football star must defend his roster spot—and his heart—when a threateningly talented and handsome midfielder joins his team in this utterly charming debut romance\, a profound love letter to the world’s most popular sport. \nOliver Harris is football royalty in London. Ordinarily the star of the Camden Roses is calm\, cool\, and collected\, keeping his club relevant with his prowess in the midfield and his mighty left foot. But this season\, the threats abound: There’s Camden’s management to contend with—complete with a prickly new Dutch coach\, eager for better results—and a midseason injury\, which sidelines him when his team needs him most. When a recruit is called up to fill in\, Oliver fears he’ll be replaced. If he can mentor this younger talent\, then they might just have a chance at winning\, together. \nAfter a string of lackluster performances in his native Spain\, Leonardo Davies-Villanueva is looking for one last shot with the club he always dreamed of\, where he once played in the youth academy. Oliver immediately finds confident\, eager Leo irritating. He can barely go through the motions\, let alone coach him\, without outright hostility. When he comes to admire Leo’s skill and warms to his humor and energy\, though\, he begins to see Leo as a friend—and then\, to his mounting horror\, as something more. \nLeo craves Oliver’s attention and partnership; Oliver can’t afford to fall in love with his teammate. He’s always kept a tight lid on his sexuality in a league that’s never had a player come out. As the season heats up\, a lot more than football hangs in the balance. Can Oliver—and Leo—win when it counts most? \nAbout the Author \nKallie Emblidge works for The Washington Post and is a co-chair of the paper’s union. She lives and writes in New York City. Two Left Feet is her first novel\, but she’s been a football fan forever.

SUMMARY:Enrollment Opens for Little Coyotes Forest Kinder 2026-2027
DESCRIPTION:Join us for another year of Little Coyotes Forest Kinder\, a land-based program for ages 3-6 that meets outdoors in nature year-round\, rain or shine\, with locations in Davis (South Fork Preserve)\, Sacramento (William B. Pond area) and Folsom Lake. \nThis program creates a nurturing and gentle transition for children who are taking their first steps beyond the familiar comforts of home. We provide a supportive environment where they can begin to explore and engage with the natural world around them\, encouraging a sense of curiosity\, independence\, and confidence in their early learning journey. \nOur educational approach revolves around fostering a deep connection between children and the natural world. Throughout the day\, our Forest Mentors and children engage in collaborative learning experiences that are rooted in our local environment. We believe deeply in a child-led approach to education\, one that meets children where they are in their development and comfort zones and then allows them to bloom and grow through their connection with nature. There is a lot of playing\, exploration\, and singing. We have a seasonal curriculum\, a collection of activities\, books\, and crafts that support social-emotional literacy\, creative expression\, and critical thinking skills.

Instead of a rigid craft\, we provide open-ended prompts—like squishy clay or vibrant paints—and let your child’s wonder lead the way. In our studio\, “the mess” is the masterpiece. \nWith no “correct” result\, your little artist is free to explore at their own pace and build confidence through pure discovery. \nCreative Play with a Purpose\nIt’s not just fun; it’s brain-building. SUMMARY:Shambhala Meditation Daylong Retreats
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in February (and again in April and June) to learn more about and to practice the Shambhala teachings. Beginners welcome! \nWe will convene for 2 Saturdays in February to study and practice simple yet profound meditation teachings and practices from the ancient Tibetan teachings of Shambhala transmitted to western students by Chogyam Trungpa. Learn to meditate\, and to develop three main qualities: gentleness\, fearlessness and clear seeing. Centered on the notion of basic goodness\, these practical and beautiful teachings are meant for times that may be easy and also especially for times that are unsettling and difficult. They describe how people can actually make use of fear\, sadness and the human capacity for resilience to access an open awareness that is clear seeing\, steady and kind. \nEach Saturday session will include talks\, guided meditation instruction\, a lunch break\, small discussion groups and a tea break. All levels of practice are welcome. Some may be hearing these teachings for the first time while others may have studied them over many years. \nIf you have attended before consider joining us again to practice together in community. (Special “repeaters pricing”) Each time we mediate together in community\, we step in with “beginners mind.”\nFor questions and to learn more please contact Megan Murphy at meganqmurphy@outlook.com or 510-542-1391 Please Register Here: https://davis.shambhala.org/registration/?id=843908 \nSliding scale pricing offered.

SUMMARY:Thai Massage Workshop with Tamara Vodovoz
DESCRIPTION:Discover the healing power of kind touch and attentive listening. Thai massage is a form of bodywork based on the Buddhist principle of “metta\,” loving kindness and compassion for all sentient beings. When we hold and move someone with this intention it communicates a sense of safety that allows their myofascia (muscular and connective tissues) and nervous system to relax and unwind. Tamara will guide you step-by-step through easy Thai massage techniques where the “giver” or active partner carefully moves the “receiving” or passive partner providing joint mobilization\, acupressure\, traction and compression to encourage the release of tension from the body. No prior experience required. Bring someone you feel comfortable working with in close contact\, or pair up with a new friend at the workshop. Please bring additional padding if you have discomfort in your knees. Bring yoga mats\, 2 cushions or pillows\, a thick blanket and wear comfortable clothing. \n$45 for one person\, $80 for two

SUMMARY:Davis Craft and Vintage Fair
DESCRIPTION:Davis Craft and Vintage Fair began as the Square Tomatoes Craft Fair more than 10 years ago! The event was started by instructors from the UC Davis Craft Center in order to have a monthly craft fair for local artisans and the local community. We embraced local vintage vendors in 2017\, we’ve grown and we are still home to local artists and makers from the Davis and greater Sacramento area. \nWe collaborate with local non-profits starting with Couleurs Vives Art Studio who joined us in 2018! Many of our talented vendors can be found at other festivals like the Davis Phoenix Coalition’s Pride Fest\, the I-House’s International Festival\, and 2nd Friday ArtAbouts on E Street Plaza. \nExpect to see friendly vendors with local handmade and original art\, crafts\, quality vintage items\, upcycled treasures\, earth-friendly creations\, good food\, and more. Free live music fills the open space for a lively atmosphere so be sure to stop by and join us!  \n

SUMMARY:Align & Flow Yoga
DESCRIPTION:All classes begin with a meditation and invite mindful movement through attention to breath and physical alignment. In a vinyasa class\, we link postures together and move with the breath on the inhale\, or the exhale. A typical class involves strength and stability work balanced by flexibility and relaxation. Each class finishes with a reclining rest. \n  \ndavisyogacollective.com
