SUMMARY:Color / Texture / Pattern at Gallery 625
DESCRIPTION:Gallery 625’s current exhibition is an appreciation of color\, texture\, and pattern explored through photography. Featuring 21 Northern California artists and over 50 artworks\, Color / Texture / Pattern highlights a wide range of perspectives\, styles\, and subject matter. \nHosted by YoloArts in partnership with the Woodland Camera Forum\, this photography exhibition aligns with Photography Month Sacramento 2026\, which will take place in April. Photography Month is a region-wide celebration of the photographic arts reaching across communities and bringing people together. \nPhotography Month Sacramento remarks\, “When we take and share photographs we are creating a common visual history and visual language. Exhibitions of photographic art hold a mirror up to society\, reflecting its interests and concerns while simultaneously confronting its ideologies and preconceptions. \nPhotography Month helps create opportunities for photographic artists by creating more physical spaces dedicated to the appreciation of the photographic arts and to create opportunities for vital discussions about images and ideas\, to bring diverse communities together in a shared space\, and to generate income for the local economy.” \nGallery 625 will hold a reception for Color / Texture / Pattern on Friday\, April 3\, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. with live music provided by Harold Sexton and light refreshments. At 6:15 p.m. award winners will be announced. The “Best in Show” award\, sponsored by Blue Wing Gallery\, will be presented by Al Eby. The “Second Prize” award\, sponsored by the Woodland Camera Forum\, will be presented by Susan Lord Bovey. \nThe “People’s Choice” award\, sponsored by YoloArts\, will open for voting on March 19 and close on April 15. The award winner will be announced via Social Media on April 17. To participate in voting\, please visit our website at https://yoloarts.org/gallery-625/. \nColor / Texture / Pattern is on view at Gallery 625 from March 19 through April 23\, 2026. \nRegular open hours of Gallery 625 are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. \nGallery 625 is located in the Erwin Meyer County Administration building at 625 Court St. in \nWoodland. SUMMARY:Author Talk: Bob Schneider
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear from local author Bob Schneider about the updated version of Exploring the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument Region. \nAbout the Author \nBob Schneider has worked with passion to protect public lands since his student volunteer days in the late 1960s to establish the Redwood National Park. He later cofounded both the California Wilderness Coalition in 1976 and Tuleyome in 2002. Bob most recently spearheaded a team of hard-working people and organizations to designate the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in 2015. He has a B.S. degree in geology from UC Davis\, is married with two grown children\, and lives in Davis. \nAbout the Book \nNestled between the Central Valley and the Pacific Coast\, the Berryessa Snow Mountain region is a place where California’s wild heart still beats strong. Here\, condors once soared over oak-studded ridges\, ancient volcanoes rose from the sea\, and rivers carved their paths through folded mountains. This richly illustrated guide invites readers to explore one of the state’s least-known but most biologically and geologically diverse landscapes—a place of breathtaking beauty\, deep history\, and ongoing conservation. Blending natural history\, geology\, and human story\, the authors reveal how plate tectonics built this land\, how fire and serpentine soils shape its living communities\, and how generations of people—from Native tribes to ranchers and scientists—have come to know and care for it. Whether used as a travel companion or an armchair exploration\, this book is an invitation to see California anew\, through the lens of one remarkable region. \nInside You’ll Find \nAn introduction to the geology\, ecology\, and cultural history of the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument and surrounding lands \nDetailed road guides for exploring both northern and southern routes through the Monument Accessible explanations of plate tectonics\, rock formations\, and California’s dynamic landscapes \nDescriptions of rare plants\, wildlife\, and serpentine ecosystems\, and the role of fire in shaping them \nInsight into Indigenous stewardship and modern conservation efforts\, including the 2024 addition of Molok Luyuk and Tribal co-stewardship \nDozens of maps\, photos\, and diagrams to enhance field learning and appreciation \nRecommendations for recreation\, responsible exploration\, and deeper engagement with this living landscape
