SUMMARY:Charlene Will: Here for a While
DESCRIPTION:Charlene Will: Here for a While\nExhibit: January 9 – February 28\, 2026\nReception: Friday\, January 9\, 6-9 PM (free)\nCharlene Will’s work is rooted in a reverence for nature. Through her abiding interest in exploring the depths of California’s remote wilderness areas\, she seeks to reaffirm basic universal truths\, from an interest in beauty and nature’s rebirth\, to the duality between chaos and order. Working with oils on canvas\, she uses traditional and self-taught brushwork\, glazes\, and the removal of layers to reveal the ephemeral qualities of light and color found in various natural ecosystems. \nArtist Talk with Charlene Will\nSaturday\, January 31\, 2-3:30 PM\n$10 (Free for Students & Members)\nThe artist will give a walk-through of her work\, covering her favorite locations to paint\, how color and light inspires her\, and the noticeable effects of climate on the natural world. Walking\, observing\, and moving through wilderness areas are paramount to her process\, and she’ll provide glimpses into how her work evolves. \nCharlene Will is the recipient of the 2025 Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award. The Award and exhibit are sponsored by Rosa Marquez & Yatish Mishra. \nImage: Charlene Will\, “Anza Borrego”

SUMMARY:"Happy Hour" Schorré Chevalier Oldham: Paintings including Acrylic & Paper Collages
DESCRIPTION:Schorré states that her exhibit\, Happy Hour\, is about facing uncertainty with optimism. “Working daily with my simplified palette in solitude allows me to create what makes me happy.” The limited color palette of red\, yellow\, and blue with black and white provided unlimited possibilities. Project 365’s small collages were constructed using papers created on a gel plate with acrylic paint. The prints are texture-rich with repetitive and irregular patterns. The larger paintings\, while using the same elements\, expanded her use of color\, depth\, and rhythm. \nThis body of work is her way of making sense of the world around her. In the midst of big life changes requiring shifts in perspective\, making art was\, and is\, her lifeline. Working daily with the simplified palette in solitude allows Schorré to create what makes her happy.

SUMMARY:Enrollment Opens for Little Coyotes Forest Kinder 2026-2027
DESCRIPTION:Join us for another year of Little Coyotes Forest Kinder\, a land-based program for ages 3-6 that meets outdoors in nature year-round\, rain or shine\, with locations in Davis (South Fork Preserve)\, Sacramento (William B. Pond area) and Folsom Lake. \nThis program creates a nurturing and gentle transition for children who are taking their first steps beyond the familiar comforts of home. We provide a supportive environment where they can begin to explore and engage with the natural world around them\, encouraging a sense of curiosity\, independence\, and confidence in their early learning journey. \nOur educational approach revolves around fostering a deep connection between children and the natural world. Throughout the day\, our Forest Mentors and children engage in collaborative learning experiences that are rooted in our local environment. We believe deeply in a child-led approach to education\, one that meets children where they are in their development and comfort zones and then allows them to bloom and grow through their connection with nature. There is a lot of playing\, exploration\, and singing. We have a seasonal curriculum\, a collection of activities\, books\, and crafts that support social-emotional literacy\, creative expression\, and critical thinking skills.

SUMMARY:Art Play
DESCRIPTION:Art Play is a joyful invitation to creative play and sensory exploration. Instead of a rigid craft\, we provide open-ended prompts—like squishy clay or vibrant paints—and let your child’s wonder lead the way. In our studio\, “the mess” is the masterpiece. \nWith no “correct” result\, your little artist is free to explore at their own pace and build confidence through pure discovery. \nCreative Play with a Purpose\nIt’s not just fun; it’s brain-building. Studies have proven that engaging in the arts helps build critical thinking\, problem solving\, social emotional\, and fine motor skills during this vital developmental window—all through play.

SUMMARY:Shambhala Meditation Daylong Retreats
DESCRIPTION:Please join us in February (and again in April and June) to learn more about and to practice the Shambhala teachings. Beginners welcome! \nWe will convene for 2 Saturdays in February to study and practice simple yet profound meditation teachings and practices from the ancient Tibetan teachings of Shambhala transmitted to western students by Chogyam Trungpa. Learn to meditate\, and to develop three main qualities: gentleness\, fearlessness and clear seeing. Centered on the notion of basic goodness\, these practical and beautiful teachings are meant for times that may be easy and also especially for times that are unsettling and difficult. They describe how people can actually make use of fear\, sadness and the human capacity for resilience to access an open awareness that is clear seeing\, steady and kind. \nEach Saturday session will include talks\, guided meditation instruction\, a lunch break\, small discussion groups and a tea break. All levels of practice are welcome. Some may be hearing these teachings for the first time while others may have studied them over many years. \nIf you have attended before consider joining us again to practice together in community. (Special “repeaters pricing”) Each time we mediate together in community\, we step in with “beginners mind.”\nFor questions and to learn more please contact Megan Murphy at meganqmurphy@outlook.com or 510-542-1391 Please Register Here: https://davis.shambhala.org/registration/?id=843908 \nSliding scale pricing offered.

SUMMARY:Thai Massage Workshop with Tamara Vodovoz
DESCRIPTION:Discover the healing power of kind touch and attentive listening. Thai massage is a form of bodywork based on the Buddhist principle of “metta\,” loving kindness and compassion for all sentient beings. When we hold and move someone with this intention it communicates a sense of safety that allows their myofascia (muscular and connective tissues) and nervous system to relax and unwind. Tamara will guide you step-by-step through easy Thai massage techniques where the “giver” or active partner carefully moves the “receiving” or passive partner providing joint mobilization\, acupressure\, traction and compression to encourage the release of tension from the body. No prior experience required. Bring someone you feel comfortable working with in close contact\, or pair up with a new friend at the workshop. Please bring additional padding if you have discomfort in your knees. Bring yoga mats\, 2 cushions or pillows\, a thick blanket and wear comfortable clothing. \n$45 for one person\, $80 for two
