SUMMARY:2nd Friday ArtAbout reception: Futaba Wood & Walker Mason
DESCRIPTION:Living Together in Harmony\nFutaba Wood: watercolor\, acrylic\nWalker Mason: photography\nMarch 3 to March 28\n2nd Friday ArtAbout Reception: March 13\, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.\nLogos Books\, 513 Second Street\, Davis\, CA\, 95616 \nFrom Futaba Wood:\nLife can be chaotic\, heartbreaking and enigmatic. Life can also be vibrant\, joyous and transformative. It’s far from simple\, but there is a certain kind of harmony to it all. That harmony is sometimes most apparent when we realize that\, despite our differences\, we are all quite similar. In nature\, many kinds of animals live side by side. Can humans – divided by race\, gender\, and background – do the same in this world? Or is this hope merely a fragile dream? These thoughts played an important role in our approach to this show. The two of us come from different backgrounds and generations and we each employ distinct mediums to create our art. In this show we wanted to celebrate our individual perspectives while simultaneously highlighting our shared appreciation for the natural world and the intrinsic harmony of life. Email: dfwood@comcast.net \nFrom Walker Mason:\nI’ve experimented with a number of different art forms\, but photography is where my heart truly lies. For me the true beauty of photography is that I can create art everywhere I go. I enjoy capturing the things I encounter in my daily life. While studying at the University of Hawai’i I became enthralled with the darkroom process. My time there reshaped the way I work. Today\, I strive to honor the tradition of analog photography and share my passion with others. Instagram @heron_photographic

SUMMARY:Art in Bloom
DESCRIPTION:Art in Bloom \nDates/times: March 13\, 6-9 PM\, March 14-15\, 11:30 AM – 5 PM\nLocation: Pence Gallery\, 212 D Street\, Davis\, CA 95616\nAdmission: Admission to the Pence is free; we welcome donations from visitors\, as they help us cover basic costs associated with running a nonprofit art gallery. \nArt in Bloom is the first collaboration with members of the Davis Flower Arrangers and the Pence Gallery\, in which creative floral arrangements are paired with specific artworks on view at the Pence from March 13-15. On Friday\, March 13\, from 6-9 PM\, enjoy meeting many of the participating floral designers and see the arrangements as they are at their freshest\, as part of the city’s 2nd Friday ArtAbout reception. Visitors are welcome to enjoy a variety of arrangements that include traditional and unusual materials\, and a variety of beautiful containers. The connection between the artwork and floral design can include using similar colors\, themes\, textures\, or overall composition. \nParticipating floral designers include Janet Goehring\, Joyce Hamaguchi\, Elly Fairclough\, MJ Kelly\, Rhody Vallejo\, Elisabetta Vivoda\, Mike MacDonald\, Stephanie DeGraff-Hunt\, and Julie Haney. Each artist has chosen an artwork for inspiration\, and will create a vibrant interpretation of pieces by exhibiting artists Manuel Fernando Rios\, Barbara Prodaniuk\, and artists from Assorted Flavors\, our annual exhibit of artworks created by forty Pence members. \nFounded in 1958\, the Davis Flower Arrangers is a long-standing organization in Davis\, dedicated to studying and instructing floral design techniques\, including Ikebana. The group\, celebrating its 67th season in 2025-26\, promotes the public appreciation of floral art through workshops\, demonstrations\, and community events. For more information on the Davis Flower Arrangers\, contact President Stephanie DeGraff-Hunt at sdegraffhunt@gmail.com. \nImage: Davis Flower Arrangement (past event)
