SUMMARY:Charlene Will: Here for a While
DESCRIPTION:Charlene Will: Here for a While\nExhibit: January 9 – February 28\, 2026\nReception: Friday\, January 9\, 6-9 PM (free)\nCharlene Will’s work is rooted in a reverence for nature. Through her abiding interest in exploring the depths of California’s remote wilderness areas\, she seeks to reaffirm basic universal truths\, from an interest in beauty and nature’s rebirth\, to the duality between chaos and order. Working with oils on canvas\, she uses traditional and self-taught brushwork\, glazes\, and the removal of layers to reveal the ephemeral qualities of light and color found in various natural ecosystems. \nArtist Talk with Charlene Will\nSaturday\, January 31\, 2-3:30 PM\n$10 (Free for Students & Members)\nThe artist will give a walk-through of her work\, covering her favorite locations to paint\, how color and light inspires her\, and the noticeable effects of climate on the natural world. Walking\, observing\, and moving through wilderness areas are paramount to her process\, and she’ll provide glimpses into how her work evolves. \nCharlene Will is the recipient of the 2025 Pence Gallery Emerging Artist Award. The Award and exhibit are sponsored by Rosa Marquez & Yatish Mishra. \nImage: Charlene Will\, “Anza Borrego”

SUMMARY:"Happy Hour" Schorré Chevalier Oldham: Paintings including Acrylic & Paper Collages
DESCRIPTION:Schorré states that her exhibit\, Happy Hour\, is about facing uncertainty with optimism. “Working daily with my simplified palette in solitude allows me to create what makes me happy.” The limited color palette of red\, yellow\, and blue with black and white provided unlimited possibilities. Project 365’s small collages were constructed using papers created on a gel plate with acrylic paint. The prints are texture-rich with repetitive and irregular patterns. The larger paintings\, while using the same elements\, expanded her use of color\, depth\, and rhythm. \nThis body of work is her way of making sense of the world around her. In the midst of big life changes requiring shifts in perspective\, making art was\, and is\, her lifeline. Working daily with the simplified palette in solitude allows Schorré to create what makes her happy.

SUMMARY:Art in Action: Celebration Stations Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Art in Action: Celebration Stations Part 1\nSunday\, February 8\, 1-3 PM\n$5 Members\, $10 Non-Members (per person\, all materials included)\nTreasure the Pence with us by constructing your very own treasure box! This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12. No registration in advance is required\, but space and supplies are limited to the first 25 participants and are available on a first come\, first served basis. When you arrive\, pay with cash or card at the front desk. A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay\, but only has to pay for the project for themselves if they are also doing art. Stay as long or as short as you like over the two hour period. \nWe have a different Art in Action family workshop every month! Learn more at https://pencegallery.org/art-in-action/. \nThis unique monthly program is generously sponsored and made possible by Mary Stephens DeWall and Les DeWall.
