This award supports the creation of new work by emerging artists in California and the opportunity to share that work through an exhibit and an artist talk in January-February 2027 at the Pence. \nArtists must use the award of $4000 to further their work in a significant direction\, and may work in any medium\, except for video or sound art. ‘Emerging’ is defined as an artist early in their art career\, who has limited experience exhibiting\, but not an extensive solo exhibit history. The artist’s submitted work must be of high caliber\, original\, and completed within the past five years. \nApplications must include a resume\, an artist statement\, and 10-15 digital images of current work\, by 9 PM PST on April 9\, 2026. DESCRIPTION:A working digitization laboratory and open storage featuring hundreds of works from the Fine Arts Collection\, Backstory: Digitizing the Museum Collection is developed and presented in conjunction with UC Davis students in the Fall 2025 Exhibition Practicum course led by Assistant Professor Alexandra Sofroniew. By bringing “back of house” activity to the front\, this project is a window into the museum’s 10th anniversary digitization initiative. SUMMARY:"Happy Hour" Schorré Chevalier Oldham: Paintings including Acrylic & Paper Collages
DESCRIPTION:Schorré states that her exhibit\, Happy Hour\, is about facing uncertainty with optimism. “Working daily with my simplified palette in solitude allows me to create what makes me happy.” The limited color palette of red\, yellow\, and blue with black and white provided unlimited possibilities. Project 365’s small collages were constructed using papers created on a gel plate with acrylic paint. The prints are texture-rich with repetitive and irregular patterns. The larger paintings\, while using the same elements\, expanded her use of color\, depth\, and rhythm. \nThis body of work is her way of making sense of the world around her. In the midst of big life changes requiring shifts in perspective\, making art was\, and is\, her lifeline. Working daily with the simplified palette in solitude allows Schorré to create what makes her happy.

DESCRIPTION:Art in Action: Celebration Stations Part 1\nSunday\, February 8\, 1-3 PM\n$5 Members\, $10 Non-Members (per person\, all materials included)\nTreasure the Pence with us by constructing your very own treasure box! Learn how to build an incredible treasure chest using origami paper\, decorative ribbons\, and more. Also make art with your community by joining us for a collaborative weaving project that includes yarn\, a rug canvas\, pom poms\, and other fiber materials. \nHow it works:\nArt in Action engages kids in art projects that are fun\, creative\, and collaborative with their family members. This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12. No registration in advance is required\, but space and supplies are limited to the first 25 participants and are available on a first come\, first served basis. When you arrive\, pay with cash or card at the front desk. A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay\, but only has to pay for the project for themselves if they are also doing art. That is why this holiday season\, if you decide to go out and celebrate\, we will pay for your cab ride home to ensure that you make it home safely. \nWe’d like to introduce a new community initiative: Free Uber\, Lyft\, and Cab Ride Program to help reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road during the holidays. This holiday season\, if you decide to go and drink\, please make the responsible choice to grab a ride home instead of getting behind the wheel.
