SUMMARY:Maryann Steinert-Foley & Diane Williams: The Realm of Possibility
DESCRIPTION:Maryann Steinert-Foley & Diane Williams: The Realm of Possibility\nExhibit: December 12\, 2025 – February 1\, 2026\nReception: Friday\, December 12\, 6-9 PM (free) \nIn The Realm of Possibility\, artists Diane Williams and Maryann Steinert-Foley explore the persistence\, generosity\, and unseen forces that sustain both nature and humanity. Williams’ layered mixed-media paintings incorporate roots\, branches\, and floral subjects. She builds and excavates her surfaces with paints\, oil sticks\, ink\, pencil and collage\, revealing traces like memory. Steinert-Foley’s sculptures give tactile\, three-dimensional form to themes fundamental to the human endeavor. Her figurative works address the tension between religion and procreation\, while her Boats (Vessels) carry people\, goods\, and culture across time and space. \nA Conversation with the Artists\nSaturday\, January 10\, 2-3:30 PM\n$10 (Free for Students & Members) \nJoin us for a fun and stimulating talk with artists Diane Williams and Maryann Steinert-Foley\, whose exhibit The Realm of Possibility is currently on display at the Pence. Director Natalie Nelson will facilitate the conversation on their respective processes\, layers of meaning in the work\, and the balance between art and life. \nThis exhibit is sponsored by Nancy Roe. \nImages: Maryann Steinert-Foley\, “My Choice Not Yours No. 3” (left); Diane Williams\, “Drifting Sirens” (right)

SUMMARY:Sarah Lam: Beyond Formalities
DESCRIPTION:Beyond Formalities – Sarah Lam \nJanuary 7 – February 7\, 2026 \nThis body of work portrays the psychological state of the individual that goes beyond traditional portraiture. Use of color\, symbolism\, cast shadows\, semi-three dimensional elements\, and embedded shadow boxes are meant to reveal the inner thoughts and character of the model. There are recurring themes in the work which include nature\, the state of the planet\, human connection to animals\, youth\, and mental health. The subjects for my artwork are people I have a connection to; family members\, students\, and friends. \nThe paintings are created using a combination of oil paints and mixed media techniques on wood panel. Acrylic mediums were employed for textural effects including gritty\, cracked\, and sculpted areas. A laser cutter was used to add and remove elements within the panel in order to achieve added depth and multi-layers. Matte medium and other adhesive techniques were applied to attach cloth and paper to the works. In addition poured Epoxy was used to replicate the effects of water in some paintings. \nThe opening reception will coincide with the Downtown Davis 2nd Friday ArtAbout January 9\, from 7-9pm. It will feature live music and free refreshments.
