Virtual Dia de Los Muertos

TANA, the art-making center of Chicana and Chicano studies, will hold its Dia de Los Muertos celebration virtually this year. It will include a blessing, Aztec dance, spoken word performances, a community altar with photos, and submitted videos of home altars:

This year TANA will hold our Day of the Dead celebration virtually. Like our past events we will feature various ceremonial components that make it a special event. Blessing and Aztec Danza by Kalpulli Tlayolotl, spoken word, and featured ofrendas that will include a special comunidad altar with picture submissions of family and friends who have passed. We will also feature videos of home altars made by community members in honor of loved ones.

We at TANA are aware of the importance to maintain community solidarity in such turbulent social and political climate where our communities are disproportionally affected by the current administrations mismanagement of a health crises and punitive immigration policies that separate the families. The upsurge in street violence and police brutality has also affected our local communities. Now is more important than ever to be in community and heal though practicing our ancestral traditions of revering those who have passed.

Help us celebrate Dia de Muertos by submitting family photos of loved ones for a virtual altar that will be on display during our evening program event.

We also invite you to submit videos that showcase your own home altars and loved ones. A selection of video submissions will be featured during our virtual live stream presentation, and also shared on our ofrenda website page.

We’re accepting videos until October 30 and on a rolling basis!

Photo Submission Guidelines: 

Submit photos via email at tanaucd@gmail.com 
In the email include your name & name of person honored.
300 DPI preferred, though a phone picture should also work.

Video Submission Guidelines: 

Submit your videos via email at tanaucd@gmail.com 
Two-minute limit per video submission.
In the video tell us your name, who the altar is for, and anything you would like to share in honor of your loved ones.

Ayúdenos a celebrar el Día de Muertos enviando fotos de sus seres queridos para un altar virtual que presentaremos durante nuestro evento de Dia de los Muertos. También lo invitamos a enviar videos que muestren sus propios altares domésticos de seres queridos. Se presentará una selección de videos durante nuestra presentación  y también se compartirá en nuestra página del sitio web de ofrendas virtuales.

Pautas para el envío de fotografías:

En el correo electrónico incluya su nombre y el nombre de la persona honrada.

Se prefiere 300 DPI, aunque una imagen de teléfono también debería funcionar.

Límite de dos minutos por envío de video.

En el video, díganos su nombre, para quién es el altar y cualquier cosa que le gustaría compartir en honor a sus seres queridos.
