The Green MooDeal: Solving the Methane Problem in Cattle and Dairy Cows

May 13, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Dairy and beef production are considered important drivers of climate change, contributing greenhouse gas emissions mostly in the form of methane released in cow’s burps. Professor Ermias Kebreab’s research at UCDavis has proven that a dried seaweed supplement added to cattle feed can reduce the amount of methane that dairy and beef cattle burp into the atmosphere—by up to 80 percent! He will talk about his innovative research and its commercial applications.

Dr. Kebreab is Professor and Sesnon Endowed Chair in the Dept. of Animal Science at UC Davis. He is a widely published scholar in the field of sustainable agriculture and is Director of the UCD World Food Center.
