Cool Davis is pleased to invite Davis local Kim Stanley Robinson, New York Times best-
selling fiction writer, back for a “cool conversation!”
We will gather on November 17th from 3-5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of
Davis. Plan to join us in person or online for Stan’s thoughtful reflections on his book The Ministry
for the Future as he discusses “What to Expect on Climate in 2025.”
Robinson writes science fiction, or more precisely, climate fiction. The topic of most of his recent
books is the urgent threat of climate change, including the loss of biodiversity on our earth, and a
host of dangerous climate impacts around the globe.
In The Ministry for the Future, Robinson envisioned how to understand and transform our dangerous
trajectory, incorporating many solutions as he wove his story. But Ministry for the Future was only
fiction. Did we really change our path? In the Nov. 17 talk Stan will reflect on how we are really
doing now, and what we can expect in 2025, five years after the publication of his novel. Bring your
own pertinent observations, questions and insights to share.
The following panel discussion will continue our reflection on what we have accomplished and what
more we need to work on.
Rita Hosking will start the gathering with some songs featured in her latest project Climate Country Radio. Rita won a grant from CA Arts Council to write a small collection of songs about the climate crisis . The songs are designed for northern CA rural counties, to be played on community radio stations as PSAs, but they are pertinent to a larger audience as well.
Register below for this in-person and online webinar being held Sunday, November 17th from 3-5
pm PST. The webinar will feature Kim Stanley Robinson. A dialogue with a panel of local climate
practitioners and a Q&A session will follow. We’ll enjoy refreshments as we compare our thoughts
on climate change from five years ago versus now and share hopes for the future. Program details
and the link to the online event will be included in a confirmation email after you register.
November 17th, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. with refreshments and conversation
afterwards.
