Having the Right Latitude: New Paintings by Phil Gross at The Artery

February 5 @ 11:00 am - March 1 @ 5:00 pm

The Artery presents “Having the Right Latitude,” featuring the paintings of Phil Gross that capture a slice of northern California from east to west. The show extends from February 5 to March 1.

Gross’s paintings are a patchwork, like a colored mosaic, of the Sacramento delta and valley farmland from a crow’s eye view; the Marin tidal zones and headlands; and the snow-fed rivers of the high Sierras.  As a longtime Yolo County resident, Phil has spent a lifetime enjoying all these places.

Gross describes his style of painting as idealistic realism, reflecting a sensuous, spiritual view of the land we are tied to–northern California’s splendor. “I want you to have an overwhelming feeling that with the next step you will suddenly be right in the painting, breathing in the lusciousness of our latitude.”

Gross’s works are in both private and public collections throughout northern California and beyond.
The Artery, 207 G Street, Davis, CA is open 5 days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM.
