Fire Trends in California
April 29, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The past two years saw the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in state history, with some burning for months. Hugh Safford, a fire ecologist, will discuss the role that human influence, including climate change, may have on future wildfire seasons, how this will affect management of wildfires, and how it may change ecosystems.
Dr. Hugh Safford is Regional Ecologist for the USDA-Forest Services’ Pacific Southwest Region (California, Hawaii, Pacific territories) and is a research faculty member in the Dept. of Environmental Science and Policy at UC Davis. He manages a Forest Service unit of ecologists that provides expertise in vegetation, fire, and restoration ecology; climate change; inventory; and monitoring to the 18 National Forests in the Region.
