After a two-year hiatus, The Davis Canton will host the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Davis Cemetery & Arboretum, 820 Pole Line Road. On behalf of the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge and the Davis Cemetery District
Memorial Day is a holiday which Americans observe on the last Monday of May. It honors those who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War. In 1971, the government designated it a federal holiday. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.
