From the artist:
As a retiree, I currently enjoy painting oil landscapes “en plein air”, or “outside on location”, in Yolo, Solano and Sacramento counties under the tutelage of artists/instructors Philippe Gandiol (tonalist, Davis) and Elio Camacho (colorist, Oakland). Occasionally I attend the workshops they hold for their students in the Bay Area and on the Pacific coast. Recently I went to Monterey County and painted seascapes in Pacific Grove with Elio. I found it quite challenging to paint there because the wind tended to increase during the day and the light on the water was constantly changing.
I earned a B.A. in Art Studio at UC Davis where I was greatly influenced by instructors William T. Wiley and Roland Petersen. As result I have always been a fan of printmaking as well as oil painting. The process of printmaking and painting is more important to me than the end product. I also paint watercolor portraits of animals when I need a break from working on plein air oils.
I can be contacted for commissions at nalasmith2@sbcglobal.net.
