Art Studio Visiting Artists Lecture: Njideka Akunyili Crosby

Njideka Akunyili Crosby will give the Betty Jean and Wayne Thiebaud Endowed Lecture on Nov. 12, celebrating Wayne Thiebaud’s 100th birthday. The MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship winner layers paint, fabric and photography to construct domestic scenes that connect to personal and world events and history. A native of Nigeria who lives in Los Angeles, Akunyili Crosby has had solo exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and her art is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and many others.
