Community Christmas Eve meal with the Davis Food C-op

By: Liliana Agredano, Davis Food Co-op

The Davis Food Co-op’s annual Holiday Meal event started in 1985 by a LGBTQ+ couple, both employees of the Co-op, whose families wouldn’t take them in. Seeing that others in the community also had nowhere to go for the holidays, they organized a meal on Christmas Eve for all to attend. This year will be our 39th year continuing this wonderful tradition. The goal continues to be providing a place to come together for a feast and laughs, especially for those who would otherwise be alone. Everyone is welcome.

This year will be a family style feast with dishes brought out to the table for all to share from 3-5pm at the Davis Veterans Memorial Center (203 E 14th St, Davis, CA). There will also be an emphasis on connection across those who join to ensure that everyone feels welcomed. This includes kids art activities hosted by our Education and Outreach Specialist, Anna.

Whether you are a small family, a couple, or solo we would love to have you!

We couldn’t put on the Holiday Meal without support from fellow local businesses, community volunteers and donations. This year, Woodstocks, Upper Crust Bakery, and Fluy Donuts have gone the extra mile to support the Holiday Meal. We are sincerely grateful to all our past and future volunteers, sponsors, and

contributors! You are the reason the Holiday Meal has been a community tradition for 39 years!

For those interested in volunteering, there are a variety of volunteer shifts open for the Holiday Meal. This Christmas Eve, give the gift of volunteering through hospitality, helping break the ice, making a dessert, or do some heavy lifting with our loading crew! To sign up, visit Signup Genius.

We additionally have a private room with free winter clothing for those in need of warmth.
