Art of Solidarity: Call for Art

Solidarity Space and I-House Davis are seeking digital artwork to be placed at the Solidarity Space Davis in Central Park. Selected pieces will be designed into a vinyl wrap collage and installed at the Solidarity Space on the concrete base of the existing green, metal surround.

This call is open to hobbyists, doodlers, poets, photographers, amateurs, professional artists, and anyone in between. Artwork can be created digitally or can be photographs of non-digital art.

Artwork to be created in response to these questions:

  • What does Solidarity Space mean to you?
  • What does Black and Brown joy look like?
  • What does an antiracist future look like in the City of Davis?

Selection Process:

Up to 10 pieces submitted online will be selected by a curatorial committee. The artists of selected pieces will receive an honorarium of $100. Artwork will also be displayed at the Solidarity Space, online on the I-House website, and possibly in a future art exhibit at I-House Davis.

Artwork will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance and responsiveness to the Solidarity Space mission and purpose
  • Visual content and aesthetic spirit.

This temporary exhibit will also inform the process of creating a permanent, public artwork at the Solidarity Space. We highly encourage BIPOC artists to submit pieces.

This will not be a blind submission process. Because the Solidarity Space has been created to uplift the perspectives of the BIPOC community, we will consider the identities of artists to ensure that selected artwork is representative of the BIPOC community as well as white allyship and other perspectives.

Art creation and curation is a subjective process. The selection of the artwork is at the discretion of the committee.
