International House Davis is proud to collaborate with YoloSol Collective to welcome our community to Wintun Homeland and participate in Acorn Stories.
Join International House Davis and YoloSol Collective for this second annual fall gathering for the whole family. Acorn Stories is a free event that will feature storytelling, an acorn processing demonstration, art activities, and more.
Native Californian cultural practitioners Diana and Chrisy Almendariz and their guests will share traditional ecological knowledge across generations about the stewardship of Wintun homeland and the restoration of the Yolo bioregion.
Diana Almendariz is an accomplished storyteller and visual artist working on the cultural and ecological revival of her Wintun homeland for over three decades. Her practice spans art and ecology, weaving together the stories of her people, land, water, and living cohabitants of this bioreigon.
She will be joined by Chrissy Almendariz, a cultural leader who nurtures the next generation of environmental stewards. Chrissy will lead participants through grinding, sifting, and preparing acorn flour as the Wintun people have done for thousands of years.
In the process, participants will learn about the pasts, presents, and futures embedded in the lands and waters of the Yolo bioregion.
Acorn Stories is an invitation by Native cultural practitioners to the diverse communities that make up the Yolocultural tapestry, to enter into right relations with Wintun homeland.
This family-friendly event will offer a public forum for the Wintun community to pass down knowledge to younger generations, creating space to center and affirm Native leadership in the ecological and cultural life of the Yolo bioregion. The event will also include a cultural exhibit, art activities, and light refreshments.
