If you missed the mad rush for Spring Break camps or just decided to save money on vacations this year, we’ve got you covered with 7 of our favorite Spring Break activities for school-aged kids in Davis.
- Ride the Double-Decker Bus
Davis’ bus system has a fleet of four vintage London Double-Deckers, one of which has been converted from a diesel engine to run on clean, natural gas. Grab a coffee for you and a snack for your little ones and spend the morning cruising downtown on the top deck! Unitrans’ double-deckers service bus lines B, E, F, G, J and V. - Visit the Campus Bug Museum
Butterflies, tarantulas, and so much more are on display at the Bohart Museum of Entomology. Did you know it’s the 7th largest insect museum on the continent? Visit Monday through Thursday.
- Host a Puzzle Competition
The hot new at-home activity: puzzle competitions. Split into groups and start your timers to see who can finish their puzzle first! Choose puzzles with the same piece count. Puzzle pros say it takes between 2 and 6 hours to finish a 500-piece set. (Fave sources for new puzzles: Avid & Co. and Davis Cards & Games)
- Bike the Davis Art Tour
The City of Davis is a work of art in itself. From the Eggheads to the Dominos to the dozens of public pieces throughout downtown: take this staycation time to initiate your kids on all the great public art. The City of Davis created a great pocket map of public art and bike paths. You can pick one up at the Davis Food Co-Op or City Hall.
- Get a First Skateboard
Every kid needs their first skateboard and if not now when?! Head to Vault Board Shop to get your kid’s first deck and wheels, then to the Community Park Skate Park for an afternoon of ramps and rails (don’t forget Band-aids).

- Take an Arboretum Tour
Field trip with your crew to the Arboretum. We’ve all walked the path, but have you taken time to explore the more than 20 gardens and outdoor exhibits? Many of them are open and free everyday. After: swing by Redwood Barn Nursery on your way home for seed starters!
- Go Bowling at the MU
Bowling may sound a little old-school, but we assure you it is alive and well at the Memorial Union. Games are only $6 if you make it before 3p. BYO Socks.
